The Biblical Connection
Mary & Elizabeth
The Mary & Elizabeth Women of God Network is biblically based on the Gospel According to Luke 1:41-42 where Mary who is pregnant goes to visit her cousin Elizabeth who is also six months pregnant. Mary, who was being ridiculed and looked upon in an unfavorable way because people, even Joseph, couldn't understand how could she be pregnant and a virgin. Mary needed someone who would truly understand being pregnant under unusual circumstances and that she was blessed and highly favored. You see Elizabeth, her older cousin who had been considered barren and too old to even get pregnant was in her six month of pregnancy when Mary came to visit her.
Now for the baby in Elizabeth's womb to leap when she heard Mary's greeting is a reason to celebrate the beauty of the relationship. Can you imagine what she said to her to cause such a response? Also for Mary to stay with Elizabeth for 3 months is also another reason to celebrate. Although the Bible does not say exactly how they spent their time together, if one uses their spiritual imagination, one would think they were nurturing, advising, and celebrating each other's bundle of joy. They were probably in spiritual Lamaze class together in preparation for the delivery of greatness; as Mary would give birth to Jesus our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and Elizabeth to John the Baptist.
Having met women that God has spiritually impregnated by God with a purpose and yet have no one to nurture them or understand them or encourage them or even be happy for them was troubling in my spirit and I know that God called me to connect with these women to fulfill their purpose. Having met women, especially those that were considered "different" and or out of the box and that were spiritually dying and experiencing a stillborn birth, miscarrying their dreams and/or about to abort the plan that God had for their life compelled me to make the Mary and Elizabeth biblical connection the spiritual foundation for this website to give them encouragement, hope, and support since I travelled the road already, trailblazing the way, of doing effective ministry Jesus's way outside of the system going beyond the walls.
The story of Mary & Elizabeth is a beautiful one that will prayerfully touch your heart as it has mine. From modern day celebrity Mary and Elizabeth's like Oprah and Gayle to every day Mary and Elizabeth's like Seketha and myself is a living testimony that women, sisters of the heart, can be there for each other and root each other on.
